Read a book it will change your life

We shouldn't teach great books; we should teach a love of reading.”

B. F. Skinner (1904-1990);

I use to think that reading was for the upper class; doctors, lawyers, teachers etc.. But then again I was fighting the cause, I was forced all the time in grade school, high school and college. I just thought doing school work was good enough, baseball, football and of course friends were more important as a teenager--which they are important for social development.
But reading on my own, what a waste of time--give me weights, a hoop or T.V--not a book to fill the void.
Now lets fast forward 20 years--I am 42 and reading is second to none, it is first of the day priority for me. I have seen the benefit of reading. First my little 8 year old sees me do it and "monkey see monkey do". Second is that reading is more fulfilling than anything on TV and I love sports--I read 15 minutes a day when I started reading 3 years ago--then it turned to 30, 45, 60 and even 4 hours in one day. I believe in reading on subjects that you enjoy, and if start out on reading that way--then your subject matter will grow and grow and grow.
The key to starting to  read is to finish your first book, then pick up the second book right away and get in the habit of reading at specific time and place that is convenient for you daily.
If there is anyone who hated reading it was me--I hated to read, I fought it and fought and fought it--today it is an addiction that I enjoy--and if I can do it you can do it.

Hope -- it is there.

Never, ever give up on a single thing that is special- up, down, sideways; however you look at never give up hope.
Here is article written this week about why it is so important to talk- share - listen.
ALL GREAT things happen to those who never loose sight.

Reading--it does your body good

Reading books is a part of my life--as it is for many people across the world. However I fought the cause for years, and I lost out on the benefits. My teachers were right, my professors were right, my parents were right, my friends  were right. But, after college I never perused the habit of reading. 20 years of not reading did not hurt me at all, however over the last 3 years of diving right in, I have seen a change for the better. February 2010 I started, and now almost 200 books devoured  I see the difference. Read and read some

Reading, as spoken by my little girl

My daughter is 8 years old and an avid reader--she has an excellent school and an excellent teacher, but she likes to read because she chooses to read.

She likes to read--in her words because......."I can learn more about dinosaurs"
........"I can gather more facts".....

Books she loves to read........... Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Snakes, Alligators and Crocodiles, 39 Clues and Lizards.

Why do like dinosaur books?......."I enjoy dinosaurs because my art teacher got me into it"

The POWER of reading

“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirates' loot on Treasure Island and best of all, you can enjoy these riches every day of your life.”

― Walt Disney Company

I really enjoy reading--I enjoy it day in and day out. But, in order for me to enjoy it and get out of it what I put in it, I must find a reading spot that is comfortable for me to read--I can not read in a cozy chair, I fall asleep. I cannot read in bed, once again I fall asleep. I have to sit at the dinning room table and read. There my mind is in the book, and not nodding off to sleep. Reading is an enjoyment we can do any time, any place--the key is to find yours. Find your spot; back porch, front swing, kitchen table. JUST READ, it will take you places you never thought you could go. The amazon jungle, Mars, the White House, Gettysburg, any where and any time we will be taken into thought, dreams, science--and if we can be taken there, where do you think kids will be taken? Read, Read and Read some more--1 book a week equals 52 books a year, take up the challenge. Start today.
